Road Safety Awareness Campaign – Galway Shopping Centre

Galway Shopping Centre are holding a road safety awareness campaign supported by Eugene Donnelly (5 Times Tarmac Rally Champion) and Danielle Murphy (European Drift Queen Champion).

The event will take place this Saturday 31st January, with Eugene and Da‎nielle being in attendance with their racing cars from 12 midday until 2 30pm. Eugene will have his Colm Quinn supported Mini WRC car which he will be driving in the upcoming Galway International Rally. Danielle will also be bringing her specially built “Lakeland Tyres” supported Nissan drift car. Both Eugene and Danielle will be available for photo and autograph opportunities.   Speaking at the launch of the campaign, Eugene explained how important the message of road safety is.

“Coming from a motorsport background involving high speed and danger it would appear that I am an unlikely candidate to be supporting a road safety campaign. As I am a normal road user I cannot stress how important the messages in this campaign are. I am involved in a high speed sport in a very controlled environment with all the protections from the clothing I wear to the roll bars and tyres fitted to the car. It is important to stress that a professional Rally car is very different from the normal road car. I am delighted to be asked to support this campaign by Galway Shopping Centre and I hope everyone will listen to the messages. I look forward to seeing you all there.‎”

Also speaking at the launch Danielle ‎offered her full support to the event. “My followers are generally quite young and I cannot stress how important it is to take heed to these messages and appreciate how dangerous the roads are and  I hope that this campaign can make a difference especially to make young drivers aware of the responsibility of their actions. If we can prevent an accident and save a life then this will all be worthwhile”
